Nailed It dish made from recycled Oak

This dish was made to be photographed for the Gallery section of a book on recycled wood written by Kerry Pierce. When I first started carving in the late 1970’s, our insurance agent gave me a number of sections from used skids, mostly 4” x 4”’s and all oak. I’ve used some of the wood for decorative objects and other pieces for mechanical purposes, Here was an opportunity to utilize remnant features from the wood’s initial use in a recycled decorative application. Incorporating the nails presented a bit of a challenge but it was ultimately a successful element. The dish was subsequently purchased by a student in one of my classes.
