Spoon Interrupted: Hard Maple spoon showing decorative damage This is one of several spoons carved from the buttress area (where the trunk meets the roots) of a large, 150+ year old Sugar Maple tree. The handle of this spoon has a large area of weathered wood where an injury occurred and bark was lost. This central rough area contrasts strikingly with the smoothly refined surfaces at both ends of the piece.
